There's nothing like people who love music so much they come out in the cold — really, really cold — to listen to hot jazz.
When the DUKES flew into Syracuse, N.Y., the upstate region was covered in many feet of snow and "enjoying" sub-zero temperatures. After playing four concerts in the region with the Syracuse Symphony, the band members returned to New Orleans talking about the warmth and enthusiasm of the area's music fans. Here are some of the reviews from the venue and the audience members.....
"The guys did a great job. The audience loved them, and they were fun to work with."
.....Jon Mosbo, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra
"We just got home from a wonderful afternoon of music. I can't begin to describe how much I enjoyed the entire program. What a breath of fresh air with all the snow around. I can only imagine what you must have thought when you saw the snow. And here in Watertown we don't have nearly as much as you drove through. Thanks again for the fantastic music."
.....K. Poulsen
"Words can't express our appreciation for your amazing performance yesterday! I have never before had so much fun at a concert, and I think I speak for the entire audience.
We all hope you had a good time with us, and safely made it through the lake effect [snow] back to Syracuse.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!!!!!"

I want to thank you for sending the Dukes of Dixieland to perform at the Brooks Center last week. It was an incredible concert and our patrons just loved it. Luther Kent has to be the best blues vocalist around and was equally nice as well. Not only did the DUKES give a fabulous performance, but they graciously met our patrons at a reception after the concert, and then arrived bright and early the next morning to perform for several hundred excited kids.
Wonderful musicians and great ambassadors of the city of New Orleans, the DUKES and Luther had our audience wanting to get right in their cars and drive to New Orleans to hear more great jazz. These performances will live in the memory of our patrons for a long time. Their energy and musicianship will be hard to beat.
Sincerely,
Lillian U. Harder, director

The Dukes were wonderful ................. Gracious, generous, cordial and great with the audience. Everyone says they were the best to date and we have had some first class acts here.
.....Craig Hankenson
"The DUKES were at the top of their game. The audience enjoyed them and
they were a pleasure to work with. Thank you all."
[Note: the DUKES played aboard the Steamboat Natchez during its first-ever
appearance at Cincinnati's Tall Stacks riverboat festival in early October.]
This band is extremely talented and can get the audience moving. They are all real gentlemen and are great when interacting with the patrons. I would work with them again anytime.
